Would I be childish?

Question

Would I be childish if divorced my husband because he will not stop smoking weed? We’re both 25 and weed is not legal in our state. I knew he smoked when I got together with him when we were 17 but I didn’t think that 8 years later he would still be smoking. I’ve asked him plenty of times to stop but he always says he will and just ends up doing it behind my back and I end up catching him or finding out.. not sure what else to do..

It’s not childish but why even marry him to begin with? My ex abused alcohol and weed, I waited 3 years for him to quit but he never did so I found someone else. I definitely wouldn’t have married him knowing my life would have to include pot and alcohol in my home 24/7. I enjoy the occasional beer, and it’s so nice to be with a man who himself can have a couple and that’s it. Being with someone who relies on that just to get by with their life is so frustrating especially when you don’t enjoy doing it together.

Cannabis use is no big deal in my opinion. As long as he’s not just sitting around doing nothing then I wouldn’t divorce him over it. But that’s my opinion. My husband has smoked since before he met me and I love him regardless. I don’t think you’re childish wanting him to quit but I just don’t think it should be a reason to divorce, unless like I mentioned above he is useless and spends all his money on his habit.

Not childish, but a lesson maybe for next time around. You cant enter a relationship with the mind set that you will change the other person. I think the part that he’s doing it behind your back is more of a red flag for me. Make your feelings known without giving him an ultimatum. Suggest marriage counseling. And if he’s not on the same page for you as far as long term goals/dreams go, then I would say maybe a divorce is a healthier option.

If you aren’t happy with his behaviour and he’s not co-operating and changing when he says he will then i think its perfectly reasonable to divorce him for this. It clearly upsets you.

You knew he smoked it when you got with him...you still stayed. You knew he smoked it when you got engaged... You still married him. Why decide now?

Honestly you dug your own grave with this one. So many people try to change things about their partner early on like a project when in reality what you get is what you should expect for good most of the time. I mean some people change but only when certain behaviors are damaging and it really boils down to their own happiness to change. My wife smokes everyday for anxiety and stress relief and I knew that going In and we discussed that it wasn't an issue for me at all and I even supply it for her. I have my fair share of flaws but marraige is for sure give and take. I dont smoke very often at all.

Don’t listen to the above comment. At the end of the day it is a drug and there’s a reason it’s not legal everywhere. If you’re not comfortable with it and it bothers you then yes you should.
