Castor Oil?

Question

How effective is it? My midwife said if I am desperate then to try it, she gave me a print out on it and it says to take it in the morning after a good night sleep. I’m just afraid it’ll only cause cramping and diarrhea 🙈

When I was reading up on it the theory is that it should cause such bad diarrhea that your intestines cramp so bad that it makes your uterus contract and hopefully start labor.

I've heard fr more "horror" or cautionary stories than good. I'd personally avoid it  but you do you!

I know several people who tried it repeatedly. It only worked for one person (one time even though she tried with different pregnancies). 
But without fail, they all experienced cramping, diarrhea, some vomiting...which is one of the ways castor oil triggers contractions, by excessively irritating your GI system...so if you really want to go into labor that way...
For me, labor is already awful, no diarrhea needed :)

I did castor oil after talking to my doctor. My OB said I had nothing to lose except being on the toilet and she told me my body was ready. I was 3 cm dilated and 70% effaced at 38+6, and measuring at 40 weeks. So at 39 weeks, I made a "labor shake" with half a pint of full-day chocolately ice cream, two healing spoonfuls of peanut butter, some milk, and 2 ounces of castor oil. I didn't get diarrhea or anythinf--just one normal BM, which was great since I was constipated. I finished the shake at 8:40 PM. The next morning at 6, my contractions really picked up, I was at the hospital around 8, and had my baby at 9:48 after 8 minutes of pushing. The labor was fast and intense and I dilated quickly. I don't know for sure if it was the castor oil, but I think it had something to do with it since I hadn't been experiencing any contractions really for the week or so prior. Obviously do your research and talk to your doctor/midwife and make a decision that is best for you. But I think a lot of these horror stories are more to do with how far along the mom was, as being 40+ weeks increases the chances of baby passing meconium in utero regardless of you taking or doing anything 🤷🏻‍♀️

My mom and grandma did this. Worked 3 times for my gma n twice for my mom... I took the midwife brew at 39w4d (2 tablespoons of Castrol oil + other stuff) Didnt get any diarrhea, nor had to poo for hours (still only pood 1 time that day after oil)... It didn't work for me 🤦‍♀️😂 My mom n gma drank a lot of it with orange juice, so I figured I didnt drink enough Castrol oil. So I waited a couple days and tried it again(just a couple days ago). This time I drank 6oz. With orange juice. That time I got mild cramps and diarrhea all day..still didn't work🤦‍♀️😂 Anyways gave up after that and Im getting induced Saturday at 5am. I'll be 41 weeks. I didn't want to be induced with pitocin, so I tried the oil, but in the end Im going to have to use the pitocin 😂

I tried the midwives brew TWICE. I didn’t get any diarrhea or cramping. It didn’t send me to the bathroom at all, it did absolutely nothing for me other than taste horrible 🤮 that was at 38 weeks.

Girl I just took castor oil 2 days ago. & it definitely caused diarrhea like right after I took it girl ! I started to get contractions. It definitely jump started my labor. I was having contractions on & off. & now I’m 2 centimeters dilated. I really just wanted my labor to start. Now I have my bloody show. Midwife says he should be here in 48 hours.
