I literally just brought my son in for his 1 year appointment and mentioned to my doctor that I wanted to start on the ring. He asked a couple questions about if I had considered other forms of bc (i had, and did a bunch of research using planned parenthood website and other resources as well as reviews of people on different types of bc) and gave me the prescription for 3 months right away. He said no need to come in for a refill, just call and he would send it directly to the pharmacy

I've been on the nuvaring for 5 years. I dont remember being tested for anything other than a preg test. They suggest you keep it in for 3 weeks and take it out the 4th week to get af. Then put a new one in 7 days after the start of af. I've had no issues on it. I have heard from friends and family members that used it and bled for months. It's not for everyone, but its definitely safer (in my opinion) than a mirena and way better than the pill.
