How should we set up the humidifier for our sick baby?

My 15 month old has a really bad cough and stuffy nose. We have a humidifier. I put it in her room and after her nap the entire room was super foggy. I felt like that wasn’t right. 
How should I do this? Is there a certain way to set it? Should I boy one that’s specifically for babies/kids?

Answer

I always put it at a pretty low setting because I use it at night and it’s going for 12hrs. You shouldn’t see the fog but definitely feel it when you breathe, at least that’s what I’ve noticed. 
Not sure how high you turned it on but beware, these things set off smoke alarms.
