I had a baby 10 days ago and he is our first. Occasionally in the evenings I feel depressed about missing out on dinners with friends and game nights because we can no longer be spontaneous wrt our plans. I assumed it would be worse for my husband since he is constantly doing chores through the day and has been doing diaper duty through the night so I get rest after breastfeeding.

I asked him on Saturday evening if he misses his old life and his answer honestly surprised me. He said that while he enjoyed going out and playing board games, it was not exactly life changing and that our son, as demanding and exhausting he may be at this stage, is life changing and he wouldn’t trade this life at all.

While I still miss my social life, knowing that my husband is so committed to our son makes me feel happy and calm.
