Do you use q-tips in your child’s ears?

I was just reading some comments on a child care post on FB, one of the moms said something about how she doesn’t clean her child’s ears, and a few other moms started attacking her about how gross that was and that she needs to clean her kids ears with q-tips.

A lot of people don’t know or even realize that q-tips aren’t supposed to be used to clean your ears, your ears naturally clean themselves, you’re not supposed to stick anything in there. If you have extreme wax build up that you can’t hear or something than that’s because you have an infection or something wrong with you, not because you didn’t clean them.

I’ll clean behind my child’s ears with a rag and then clean the ear hole with the rag too but I don’t stick anything into their ear at all, they’ve never had any ear problems and their doctor actually always says their ears are clean.
