Popularity problem ?

Does anyone else have a problem or issue naming their kids really popular names? I loved the name Nora until i found out it was in the top 5 of most popular baby names of 2020. If I ever add a name to my list it’s because it’s NOT popular. For example: i like the name Mallory for a girl. Its number 966 from 2020 so far. My husbands name is LaDell and his name is obviously not popular but the number is 11,433. I think names are better least popular it is. Am i the only one that feels this way or should i just name my child a popular name regardless if he/she is in the same class as 5 other people with the same name?

It’s January. There are no statistics yet for 2020. Most 2020 babies haven’t even been born and thus do not have legal names. If you see a list claiming to be for 2020, look again: it’s speculative. Not stats-based.
Nora is #30 in the US according to the most recent available actual statistics of actual births.

There is always a chance that your nonpopular name will become popular by the time the child goes to school.

I am very particular about this. My kids are Norah (she's ten, so way ahead of the curve), Everly (she's two, so slightly ahead of the NOW trending curve) and my son is Harlan. But. As you see, I beat the trending of the moment but no matter what you do it comes back around... So pick a name you love. I just found out I'm having a boy today, but had my girl named Dove. I'm sad I don't get to use it, because it was one I was fairly confident wouldn't hit trending any time soon. 🤣

Something being overly popular definitely sways my opinion some. Something that’s interesting though is that popular names aren’t as popular as they were when we were younger. When I was looking at the top ten popular names from the early 90s, the percentage of babies born with those names was wayyyy higher than the percentage of babies born with top 10 names now.

I prefer names that aren’t in the top 10, however if it’s a name I love, then I’ll chose it regardless of popularity. You’ll be saying her/his name a million times each day, you want it to be a name you love. 
I grew up with my name being #3 in popularity the year I was born.... I was always one or at least 2 in my classes with my name.... it wasn’t the end of the world. 
Now that I’m an adult it matters even less.

My husband and I both agreed to stay out of the top 10... I went to a small school. Less than 100 per class and there were 2 other Rachel's in my class 🙄🙄
I hated it. 
We both love the name Emma but it's in the top 10 so we crossed it off the list.

I don't like popular names, I don't like names of people I know, I don't like trendy names with too many vowels, I hate hybrid names, I basically hate everything. It's been so hard choosing something for our daughter. I've got ~80 days to go until she's here and we just have nothing

What’s popular in one area may not be popular in another. Maybe check out the names popular in your state as well.

As a mother of girls named Madeline, Brooklyn, Nova and Rose, I don't have a problem with popular names at all.
In fact, I think if you like a name, in the top 1000 or not, your child should be named that. It is your decision, and some statistics shouldn't affect it. 
For example, why is the name Sophia so popular? Because many women loved that name, and didn't care that their child would meet 5 other Sophias by the end of middle school, beacuse they knew that the name Sophia was fit for their baby and their family.
That's just my opinion🤷🏻‍♀️.
