How young are kids using social media accounts these days?

Just curious, and need some insight for my future pre-teens/teens.

I mean, most apps require you to be 13. But I see 8 year olds with phones or iPads, so you know they have access. 
I personally wouldn’t allow anything before 13 & even that seems young to me. 🤷🏼‍♀️

This may sound crazy but all my kids have a Facebook account since the day they were born. They do not have access to it and won’t until their teenagers. We wanted to set this up for them for pictures and memories so they can look back on their lives and memories since the day they were born. They are only friends with me and my husband and a couple of immediate family members. It’s locked and private. No one can send friend requests to them, etc.

My kids won't be having any kind of social media or personal technology until they are AT LEAST 13, but probably not until they have their license. I'm 21, so I grew up in the era of social media and technology. I know the stupid things I did and I know the stupid things my friends did. Had I been older and more mature, those things wouldn't have happened.
That being said, family laptops etc. will be allowed with appropriate supervision (not overbearing, just open communication) before they are deemed old enough/mature enough to be trusted with personal tech and social media. It's a matter of safety.
People can disagree if they want, but my husband and I talked about this before we even got married and that's where we stand on it.
That being said, the question was "How old are kids that are using social media?" Most sites require a person to be 13, but I know several elementary schoolers who have lied about their age and have social media. My best friend is a prevention specialist at a rape crisis center and goes into schools doing education on internet safety, body safety, consent, etc. She hears stories all the time of kids with social media who are targeted and those who are not. Many of these children's parents don't even know they are on these sites. It's sad.

My kids are 12 and 13. They have Instagram and Facebook. They never use Facebook literally at all. I monitor their Instagram messages daily and follow them both. They’re very mature with it. They used to have Snapchat and Tik Tok which both got taken away, 1 because I don’t like that Snapchat deletes stuff so I can’t see what they’re sending, and 2 I don’t know how to work tik tok so they don’t have it lol

My son is 3 and he won’t be having any type of social media until he can prove to me he’s mature enough for it. Social media is dangerous, especially in the hands of young children. He might be 15-16 before he’s allowed to have it.

My daughter is 10 and has a facebook to keep in touch with her bio father's side of the family. She can't add people without my permission
