What’s the longest you’ve left your cats (with a gravity feeder and water dispenser, of course)?

I have 2 cats, and get so anxious about leaving my fur babies even for a day 😭 The longest we’ve ever left them is 3 days and my one cat managed to close himself into my room without his food, water, and litter (for who knows how long he was trapped in there...) and peed on my bed. I was so upset over this I haven’t left them overnight since.

We have to go visit a sick relative next month and I’m freaking out about the cats. They will NOT do well being boarded somewhere (they freak out if they’re brought somewhere new) and I can’t have anyone check in on them... my one cat is extremely fast and crafty, and he usually waits by the door and will try to dart out of you aren’t quick to close the door (and willing to kick him a little out of the way) so I’m too scared to have anyone else come in our house and risk letting him outside.

We were thinking about going for Thursday-Tuesday, which would mean they’d be alone 4 full days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and we’d be home Tuesday evening) but we are really wanting to stay 1 more day. It seems silly to fly all the way across the country and not stay another day if we want to.

BUT I’m nervous this is too long to leave the cats? It would be like, 5 and a half days of them being alone. Again they’d have plenty of food and water, I’m planning to tape all the doors open so he can’t lock himself anywhere, and am going to get a baby camera so I can check in on them.

Has anyone left their cats alone this long? Is it too long? Do we stay the extra day or no?

I personally think that is too long. I would highly recommend finding someone to come check on them or hire a person sitter. As far as the cat making a run for it, is there any way to lessen the opportunity for kitty to escape? I worked for a professional cat sitting company for a while and we were very careful about this. Like maybe give the sitter the garage door opener (if you have one) instruct the sitter to close the garage door before opening the door to the house. That way at least kitty can’t get further than the garage. Just a thought. 😊

That's a long time to not clean their litter box (unless you have a self cleaning one). I wouldn't leave them alone that long. I always get my brother to house sit when we're gone that long. I'd never leave them longer than a day.

Honestly I've never left our cats that long without someone checking on them at least once. Longest they've gone is 3 days. Only you can know if your particular cats will be ok. Mine would be insanely depressed.

2 weeks, we leave a window open though so they can come and go as they please. They potty outside mostly.

Okay but honest question, what gravity feeder do you have? All of the ones I’ve had don’t work very well and I have to help the food come fully out

I have two and less than 24 hours. They are veryyyyyyy needy cats. They get sad without human interaction haha.
