Is going to a gym worth it?

I live an hour from the nearest gym, they also don't have punching bags, which I was looking for. Is it worth it to get a membership there and go? What if I don't know how to do anything and embarrassed myself?

An hour??!  No, that would not be worth it for me.  I have a Peloton, weight bench, bosu ball, various kettle bells and other free weights at home.  No way I would drive an hour to and from a gym.   Otherwise, yes, I like going to the gym, but mine is 5 min from me!

In your case, no. There are some great at home workouts you can do without equipment as well as walking around your neighborhood. If you even want there’s some low cost weights you can buy or even other items to help with your workout.

I'm a personal trainer and I can tell you right now that you're better off working out at home especially since you sound like you're at a beginner level. You really don't need any weights or other equipment at the beginner stage. Simple body weight exercises will give you a killer workout and once you're further along in your fitness journey you will need more equipment. Use Pinterest to get at home exercises we can purchase a couple of weights bands and a punching bag install it in your garage or work out in your living room which will save you money in the long run and honestly I can get just as fit 
￼If you do decide to go to the gym do not be embarrassed to ask for help everybody’s in for the same reason and it prevents you from putting yourself

An hour? No. I would use my money to invest in some work out equipment or a treadmill to work out at home. You have to factor gas and time you’d be spending driving to and from the gym. You can also jog outdoors.
