Emergency C Section
Admitted to the hospital 1/22 at 11pm due to regular and strong contractions. They saw baby’s heart was dipping with the contractions so they wanted to monitor us over night before deciding what to do. Dr didn’t feel comfortable sending me home even though i was only 2 cm dilated. She decided to start me on pitocin at 11am 1/23 to help get things moving. Contractions instantly jumped from a pain level of about 5 to like 50!! I asked for an epidural after 1 hour..so glad I did. I could still feel the contractions but they weren’t painful anymore. At about 3pm I was 4 cm dialated and dr said she would come and check 4 hrs later since I was progressing so slowly. At a little after 5 she decided to check in to see how I was doing. She went ahead and checked my cervix and didn’t say anything she said she needed to get another dr to confirm what she felt. 2nd dr came and checked, next thing I know tons of nurses come flying in the room and I was told that they needed to take him out immediately. They wheel me to the OR at 5:20, by 5:24 baby is out. Even though I had the epidural and they added anesthesia through the epidural, i could feel everything!! It felt like they were tearing me open. Anesthesia finally kicked in by the time they were closing me up. Dr later came to explain that i was probably dilated close to an 8 but baby’s cord slipped through the cord and his head was pressing up it and when the 2nd dr was called, his heartrate dropped in the 70s.
Everything was very intense and unexpected. But my baby boy was born healthy and did not have any complications after. Weighed 6Lbs 4oz and measured 19 in.
