D&C painful?

For those who have had a D&C, is it painful? Is it better than taking the pills to pass it yourself at home?

Not at all. It good to go that route if you’re okay with surgery because you are put to sleep and you wake up and it’s all over! I had to get one because I had a missed miscarriage and the longer I waited the closer I was to possibly hemorrhaging. It was the safest and in my opinion best option. I was glad I did it. I was able to wake up, heal, and start to move on the next day with no physical pain aside from a bit of cramping and some constipation due to the anesthesia.

Just got a suction d&c today and everything went smooth and better than expected. Bleeding is very minimal pain was intense hours after i got home but sent husband to cvs to buy an electrical heat pad and worked wonders along with some ibu. (would rotate heat pad from lower stomach to lower back) 
I have heard medication can take a while to pass everything and also is just tougher emotionally and physically. 
But you do what is best momma, no one will judge you for your decision!

I had no pain for the procedure itself (outside of slight discomfort when the put local anesthesia in the cervix)
I wasn't asleep but awake and under general anesthesia (versed and fentanyl).
Minor bleeding and discomfort post surgery. Highly recommend regular ibuprofen and a heating pad for lower abdomen. My cramping/bleeding was worst 5 days post-D&C (passed some larger clots)
I had a MMC discovered at my 11 week NT scan. Baby had stopped growing around 9 weeks. No bleeding or other symptoms of MC. I'm now waiting on results of pathology test since they sent  the tissue away to check for Partial Molar Pregnancy. <- this wait has been even more anxiety-ridden since I was expecting to have some closure after the procedure.

The only thing about mine was my throat was sore the next couple days. It was quick and easy in and out within 5 hours

You are usually sedated for it so do not feel it. Pain is not the primary concern. Both habe risks and you have to weigh up which ome you think is less risky. If this were me (I've never needed interventions for my losses), I feel I would prefer to pass baby at home, BUT if you're further along say 6+ weeks there is potential to have the "products of pregnancy" genetically tested to find out why baby may have passed and even details like gender so it would ve a tough choice.

I can’t compare to how the pills felt as I chose d&c. My experience:
- Baby measured 6w5d in size but no heart beat. My d&c was delayed due to unrelated illness and I was nearly 10w by that stage, still fully intact with no bleeding. 
- I was scheduled for a d&c and has to take one dose of the pill prior to the surgery. Unfortunately my surgery was cancelled, however the pill had little to no impact (just some very mild cramping).
- I was rescheduled and again took one dose of the pill prior. I didn’t feel any impact from this dose.
- Woke from the surgery without any discomfort really, just felt a bit off and cautious in my movement.
- I was sleepy and a bit tender for a couple of days. I felt by the third day I was more tender than the first 24 hours. By the third day I was uncomfortable with picking my toddler up and down.
- I had been mildly bleeding the first couple of days and then passed larger clots on the third day- I was shocked by how big and dark they are but this was apparently normal. 
- Sometimes I would feel a clot getting ready to pass and would sit on the toilet and I could feel it sliding out of me.
- there were times I thought to myself that maybe the pills would have been simpler, but I’ve heard stories about passing lots of clots with those too. Also naturally you may need to pass the fetus if you take the pills which is something to consider.

Honestly it all depends on your body. We are all different. You are under anesthesia so no, it's not painful. But...the anesthesia reacted weird with my body which made my body ache and stiffened my muscles all over for about 3 days. To the point I could barely get of bed or go to the bathroom. Finally I had to just say screw it and move around constantly to get the stiffness out. Prayers for you.

I had zero pain. Was under general anesthesia for the procedure and afterwards I had some slight cramping for a few days, but nothing major. Good luck and sorry for your loss

My DnC wasn't that bad. I was alittle sore and groggy that evening but was back to work the next day. And I had some cramping for the next few days.
