Purées making baby constipated?

I’ve been giving my son a small amount of purée before bed and I’ve noticed the last few nights he’s been waking up and straining to poop. Then he’ll start crying bc nothing comes out. He’s never done this before starting solids. What should I do?

When starting solids you should really start earlier in the day, for example at lunchtime, to be able to monitor any reactions. And you should give them the same food for at least 2/3 days running. 
Dinner should be introduced at the last stage. Once breakfast and lunch is established. This can takes weeks of a gradual process. 
What veggie are you given baby? Carrots for example can cause constipation. 
Are you mixing the purée with babies usual milk to ease it on the stomach? 
Personally I would advise you to switch up and try baby on oatmeal for a week or so and then some purées at lunchtime that don’t cause constipation. 
If baby is constipated and needs relief, a warm bath followed by some tummy massage and bicycle kicks massage (you tube) and a little bit of Vaseline on bottom helps
Or my health visitor had previously suggested 50mls of boiled them cooled water mixed with 10mls of freshly squeezed orange in a bottle. (This works a treat) must be completely cold when giving to baby.

I’d cut way back.  That’s a sign baby’s intestines aren’t quite ready.  Just give solids for a taste and a little practice/food introduction for another couple of weeks then try to up them a little again.  Good luck!

My son was getting like that because he is fully eating purées after his milk. When I first started he went like 8 days his ped told me give him a half oz of prune juice mixed with half oz of baby water. That worked now he pretty much goes poop on his own just takes a few days instead of everyday being breastfed

Try giving purée in the morning not at night so baby has all day to digest. Prunes help ease constipation. I have been feeding baby solids since 4 months with no issues but I started with cereal once a day and worked into two times a day. Slowly thickening the consistency.. then slowly started with veggies. I always try new things in the morning to see how he reacts through the day. Never at night! No digestive issues so far.

Prune pear peaches (p foods) I like to mix this in with whatever food I’m giving to help with digestion! It works nice! Bananas also make you constituted so if I give banana I give pears too and carrots and beans just because I know those ones upset him so I usually will do a fruit with it as well or just mix some in. My pediatrician said just get the baby food not the juice the juice can give them gas.
