My brother has hearing aids he just doesn’t want to use them. He turns the TV all the way up until the neighbors can hear it and it’s surround sound. I asked him why specifically he’d rather make everyone else’s ears bleed than wear his hearing aids.

“I didn’t know wind made sound. I didn’t realize that, and I don’t like hearing everything I didn’t know you can hear. It’s overwhelming and distracting and I hate it.

I never thought of it like that. Imagine what school sounds like to him with hearing aids. Imagine living in a quiet world your whole life and then all the sudden you hear everything. Hearing people have learned to block random sounds out and focus but non hearing people it must be mentally exhausting to finally hear EVERYTHING
