Zoospermia and IVF
My husband and I have been TTC for almost two years now. About 10 months ago we saw a fertility specialist who determined my husband had zoospermia (complete absence of sperm in ejaculation).
The first step in our process is for him to have a micro surgical sperm aspiration to determine if he has sperm pockets in the testicles or not. If he does, the doctor will retrieve and then we can start the IVF process. If not, then we begin discussing other options - sperm adoption, embryo adoption, or adoption.
I would like insight from others who have experienced this. Our insurance does not cover any of the cost of the sperm aspiration or IVF, which you all know is extremely expensive. The sperm aspiration will cost us about $6,000. And then adding the potential cost of IVF. For those of you that have done this how did you make the decision to move forward and spend that amount of money knowing there was a high chance there was not viable sperm? Did any of you find a clinical trial for zoospermia that included the sperm aspiration? What advise can you give?
