Wake baby for a diaper change?

5 weeks old. He does not sleep well at night, waking up for long stretches and only sleeping for 1-2 hrs at a time.  Woke at 5 am and finally at 730 he goes back to sleep... as soon as this happens I hear/Smell him poop his diaper. would you wake him for a change?????? 😭

I mean...how many times do you think maybe your kid poops as soon as you put him down but you don’t notice because you’re already asleep yourself 🤷‍♀️ 
My breastfed 6 week old poops all the time, and did even more frequently in the first few weeks of his life. I’d have been waking him up hourly to check a diaper sometimes if I felt like I needed to change every poop. 
Cover that butt in diaper cream and go to sleep after you get baby changed. Unless you’re really battling a diaper rash I think sleep for you and baby are also pretty important.

If he’s breastfed I would say no. My pediatrician said that since we’ve already digested the food, the baby isn’t as sensitive to diaper rash (unless he’s sensitive to something you’ve eaten). 
She told me this because my son too wasn’t a great sleeper so she said obviously during the day and your awake, change him. But if it happens at night and he’s asleep, he will be okay.
