Thoughts on Taylor Swift documentary?
At first I was really proud of her for deciding to have and show her opinions on politics and injustices. I love what she said about unlearning the misogyny that was planted in her. It’s what a lot of us have to realize and do and that’s awesome she admitted that. She became braver and smarter, as most of us do as we age.
But as I sat and thought about the things she said through the doc like she wants everyone to love her, she thrives on approval, she knows women are basically discarded in the entertainment industry once they get older so she has to keep reinventing herself based on what fans want... it just rubbed me the wrong way. It made what she has become seem fake. I guess I’m not sure why she kept saying those things. She basically told us she is “reinventing” herself because intersectional feminism is popular now and that’s what’s going to keep her loved, especially after the big hate she was receiving. Maybe I’m overthinking it? What are your thoughts?
