So I don’t really know how to handle this situation, maybe I’m overreacting. I haven’t really been around many dogs in my life, I had one dog growing up, he was a little Pomeranian Maltese mix. He was really cute but kind of nasty especially towards kids. He pretty much wanted to be left alone most of the time, so this may be why I get nervous when my son is around dogs.

My husbands aunt and sister have dogs. My sil has a Pomeranian and the aunt has 2 yorkies. The dogs are really sweet and friendly. They are their babies, and they bring them to all the family get togethers. My son is 15 months and not always very gentle with the dogs. I teach him to “do nice” to the dogs and to touch then gently, but sometimes he gets over excited and pulls the dogs hair or tail. The dogs are super friendly but i feel like they will eventually bite him so I try to keep my son away as much as possible, especially when the dogs get near my sons face. My sil and the aunt get SO offended when I do this. They are like my dogs are so nice they wouldn’t bite him stop being like this, but I feel like there’s only so much hair pulling and tail grabbing they can take! I let my son play with them now (with me right there!) but then when the dogs go near his face the panic starts, I pull him away and the sil and aunt get mad again!

Idk maybe because I haven’t been around too many dogs, am I being dramatic? I just don’t want them to bite my son, and I don’t want the dogs to get hurt either, and I feel like while he’s gentle with them most of the time, he still gets too excited around them.

I also don’t want to offend my sil and aunt. Like I don’t think their dogs are monsters or anything.
