Experiences with RSV??

Question

If your baby has/had RSV, please let me know how it was and if they needed to be hospitalized.
My son tested positive and is also wheezing (apparently most don’t have this symptom) so needs to use a nebulizer every 4 hours. He also had wheezing during his last cold. We are seeing our pediatrician tomorrow, but our urgent care doctor says he may be one of the unlucky babies that needs to be admitted since his symptoms are so severe on just day 2. 😔
On a side note, how in the Hell do people keep jobs with sick kids/babies??? He’s going to be sick for a week so of course can’t go to daycare. Thank God my parents are willing to drive 90 minutes here to help. This is his 3rd time getting sick.

My son had RSV and has really severe wheezing. He started having retractions so I took him to the ER - that’s where they tested him and we found out it was RSV (it was also day 2 for us). But he was keeping his oxygen levels up and wasn’t working “too hard” to do so, so we were released. His pediatrician didn’t take things lightly...we saw him twice a day for 3 days, then once a day for 2 days because the wheezing was so bad and he wanted to watch his breathing patterns and oxygen closely. But we managed to get by with not having to be admitted to the hospital. He was borderline almost the entire time, but his pediatrician didn’t send us because 1. They’ll only admit babies that are majorly struggling and whose oxygen is way low (my sons oxygen was in the 87-89% range at one point but we still weren’t admitted due to him not having to work extremely hard to breathe) 2. Taking them to the hospital exposes them to a whole list of other nasty stuff.
His pediatrician was great about monitoring the situation since the wheezing was so bad and he did have some trouble maintaining his oxygen. I gave him albuterol breathing treatments every 3-4 hours around the clock, even at night. I also had to push fluids because he didn’t want to eat and started getting dehydrated. I even had to start trying to give pedialyte and he lost 4 ounces. I ran a cool mist humidifier constantly. But we made it through without having to be hospitalized and I’m glad.
Days 5-6 were definitely the worst for us. I didn’t sleep for several days. But after day 6, he started to improve and the improvement happened rather quickly. By day 9 the wheezing was considerably better and by day 12 all he had was a little cough.
Sorry my post was long, I just wanted to give as much information as possible. RSV is scary, but it’s possible you might not end up in the hospital. Just watch baby closely and work with your pediatrician. I’m so happy we beat it without being admitted because I know he was so much more comfortable at home.

My son had it and was out of daycare for 3 weeks 😫 it was soooo tough with work. 
We invested in an electric nasal aspirator because we were using the nose frida so much and just flying through filters. 
We also needed the nebulizer every 4 hours. Was told to drop down to 3 times a day after a week then gradually to 2. 
My son also got 2 teeth in while he had Rsv so it got ugly. 
Just feed them whenever you can to keep them hydrated, suck the mucus as much as possible, cool mist humidifier.

Yup, my baby had it and was also out of daycare for a week. No hospitalization, just 3 doc’s visits. We used a humidifier like it was going out of style. The scariest part was me worrying about dehydration because she didn’t want to eat. But we got through! You’ve got this.

My son had RSV, but it was a milder case. We were never admitted, we just had a seriously congested, coughing, sick little guy for a few weeks. Here's hoping all is well with your little one.

My son had RSV a couple of weeks ago. It started off as a cold and then he was stuffy for a month or longer. In that time he started wheezing so I rushed him to his pediatrician. They gave him a prescription for a steroid to help him breathe. He didn’t need to be hospitalized because we caught it early. He did get a puffer to use as well. He got better after about 2 weeks.
It’s so hard to see them that sick when they’re this little. Hope this helps!
