Doula?

Question

I got connected with a doula. She seems great and is cool that I want a very medically-assisted pregnancy. I just can't help but thinking that if I'm not doing all the natural birth stuff, do I really need a doula?

This is definitely up to you but Doulas are amazing for even medicated births. They’re basically your spokesperson during birth. They explain procedures, help you dilate by having you move, they give you advice based off your birth plan. Speak with your Doula, and explain you want a medicated birth. Most are very open.

Hi Leanna I’m a doula and have many clients who want a medical birth. Our role is to reassure them, often translate, prepare and explain how each intervention goes and most important make sure that intervention (especially epidural) are taken at the right time (not too early usually as it could have a negative impact on the labor)

I had one with my last. Was planning a natural birth but it turned into a csection since my baby wanted to come feet first. I still was glad to have her. She gave me loads of great info for before and after c section. Things to prepare and do and such

Ah if I was going the medicated route I would want a doula more than ever

I had a Doula for my first birth and she was a savior. My birth was natural but just the support a Doula can offer is invaluable. She will be your voice if you’re confused or vulnerable or god -forbid , unable to articulate what you need/want. My husband thought it was so nice that he could just be there for me but didn’t have to be the expert. It enabled him to relax. So it’s definitely worth it- depending on the type of support you’ll have present.
