No prenatal visits until 6 mo

My husband and I are planning on moving to Costa Rica next year before I'm due in july. I was wondering your opinions on not getting prenatal checkups. I have a midwife picked out there but while I'm here I don't think I want to get a midwife just to have to change in a few months.

I am young, healthy, and I have kind of a philosophical view that if my baby isnt supposed to make it I have to ability to try again and if the baby wasn't healthy enough to survive through pregnancy she probably wouldn't have been healthy in life. I'ts just survival of the fittest.

Has anyone gone the majority of their pregnancy without prenatal visits? What was the outcome? I know there are women who don't find out until they are much farther along.

I did my own all the way through my last pregnancy. Healthy 9lb girl. It worked well for me.

Thank you for sharing! it eases my fears. people have been having babies forever, our bodies are designed to do it, so why not.

I chose to not get prenatal care and my baby was 9 lbs 7 oz and extremely healthy! You can order a fetoscope, blood pressure cuff and urine tests online

I don't have experience without prenatal visits, BUT I live in Costa Rica AND I'm also due in July! Super excited for us both!

Do your own prenatal care. I believe there are kits you can order to test for protein and sugar in your urine and whatever else you need.

Only because I miscarried at 18 wks my last pregnancy I will say to err on the side of caution. Personally I would visit a midwife twice before you leave. I would have a visit around 10-12 wks and again around 20wks just to be sure everything's ok before flying

Just want you to know that life happens and you should atleast have a midwife come out to your house once for peace of mind before you leave

My first two I had homebirths with and reasoned with my last preg that I knew my body and wanted as little visits as possible. Baby died weeks before I mc and if I had been seen I would've known and it would've saved me 3 months of being in and out of the hospital. I don't want to scare you

Why do this to yourself? What's wrong with switching doctors.Even if things aren't meant to be there's a difference between finding out in a healthy manner and suffering in emergency.

I am not a Dr nor do I play one on TV nor on my body nor with my fetus. But that's me. I wish you and your family all the luck in the world and congrats on baby and moving to beautiful Costa Rica!

I don't want to just willy nilly run around pregnant lol. I've actually been reading about doing checks from home with equipment you can buy for yourself. id be monitoring myself, and in reality even with a prenatal doctor you spend the majority of the time in between visits doing your own prenatal care.

I almost never find put I'm pregnant until almost 4-5 months! Lol i just never show much and all times I've been on different forms of birth control. Lol it's never caused me any issues but did stress me out. You may look up some research and information on self prenatal care. For legal reasons within an abusive marriage i couldn't get prenatal care through one miscarriage and a pregnancy until 4 months and i had a Doppler and charted myself. I'm not an expert but i felt much better about that over nothing at all.
