Switching Birthcontrol: Nuvaring 👉🏻 Kyleena IUD
So a little backstory:
I’ve been using Nuvaring for about 8 months and it was going great, I loved how easy it was to use and I didn’t really notice many side effects. However, in the last month there’s been a few more symptoms and I’ve also been starting to wonder if a lot of my health issues I’ve been having the last year could possibly be related to the hormones in Nuvaring? But they also could be from totally unrelated issues too.. for example:
For around the same amount of time I’ve been using nuvaring, I’ve been having some pretty bad GI issues - tmi but excessive diarrhea, stomach cramping, and I even had blood in my stool once which of course brought me to the ER. This could be a side effect of nuvaring or more underlying issues like maybe IBS? I have insurance but it’s all outta pocket until my high deductible is met so I havnt brought myself to see a specialist.
Also, I’ve been more recently very emotionally unstable.. like to the point I’m finally going to counseling, I honestly feel life I’m bipolar my mood swings are just so extreme. I’ve always had high anxiety and been more emotional around my periods but never like this. But, it could also be because I’m going through what I hope to be the end of a very emotionally abusive relationship.. the words he says are definitely taking a toll on me so it could all be surfacing now. This could also explain the GI problems from the high stress my body is being put through? I have no idea..
Along with those 2 things, last month there were more mild side effects like spotting and what felt like I was either ovulating or pregnant? I just never had bad symptoms like that before so it made me question if my body was possibly rejecting the birth control with my doctor said is absolutely possible.. so then I remembered all these other things that have been goin on and I immediately made an appointment with my gyno which was today. She said the only way to find out if it’s the birth control or not is to try something else for a while and see if it stops. She suggested that I try the Kyleena IUD because it’s not as strong of hormones.
So, I took my nuvaring out today, and I get the iud put in on Friday during my period... I’m honestly kind of nervous. Can anyone tell me what to expect about the procedure? What to expect about the first month(s)?
I’m nervous but very hopeful that this will alleviate my other health concerns. Don’t get me wrong, I’m addressing those things separately too, I start counseling tomorrow and I’m working on leaving this asshole really soon, as well as reaching out to a couple GI specialists. We’ll find out if Nuvaring had maybe exaggerated these symptoms tho 🤷🏼♀️
