Real labor or not?

Question

I’m 39 weeks today and was 3cm and almost all the way effaced at my appointment this morning so got a membrane sweep. Have been having contractions every 3-8 minutes since and then the past hours it’s been every 4-5 minutes apart . Could this be the start of real labor or just from the membrane sweep?
Edit/update.. thank you all for your advise! I’m happy to report it was the real deal and baby is here !!!

Do you all requests sweep or do some doctors just decide? Next appt at 38w3d wondering if I should ask

Won’t know until they stop or you have a baby. A membrane sweeps purpose is to induce labor so if it’s working then it’s done it’s job.

Sounds like it could be labor. Call labor and delivery and let them know and they’ll advice you on the best next step. Good luck !

Not sure but I would wait to see if they get more intense and don’t go away after drinking water and laying down. If they continue I would go in.

I had one today too and I’m so uncomfortable, hoping it means something is happening.
