Is it too late at night to run the vacuum cleaner?

I live in a fourplex - each unit takes up a floor in the four storey building. I'm on the 2nd level. There are two above me and one below me.
I guess I tracked in some dirt over the past couple of days on my shoe mat. Noticed it and vacuumed it up. Took me 2 whole minutes. 
The person above me on the 3rd level complained that I was vaccumming too late at night and that I disturbed her 18 month old.
And the time? 8:10 until 8:12 PM.

My old apartment complex had a "vacuum policy" due to high complaints. If you were "caught" during the hours 8p-8a it was considered a noise complaint. I thought it was a bit extreme but it kept everyone on the same page. I would personally be annoyed if it were for a long period of time (as in the entire house, behind furniture, etc.) Since my kids wake up for everything and bedtime is 8pm here since they get up so early for school. But definitely not enough to complain unless it was like 11p or later.

My apartment has a curfew of 10pm. Which means I can play music, vacuum, etc until that time without risk of noise complaint (thin walls). If it’s a huge problem for your neighbor she can always get white noise for her baby, like we do. I’d check tour community rules and see if you have a curfew time.

I would vacuum at 8PM without even thinking about it. I'd consider after 9 PM too late.

Where I live you can’t file noise complaints until 10pm.

Unless it’s a weekend, yeah, I would keep my noise to a minimum after 8.

For me yeah. My kids start winding down for the day at 8 and bed is 9. 🤷🏻‍♀️every once in a while no big deal but if it’s a regular occurrence I’d be saying something to you not the landlord 🤷🏻‍♀️

For me yeah, my kids go to bed at 7pm and we’re usually winding down around 8-9 since we get up around 4:30 am

I run my vacuum after 9 all the time. Every apartment is different but at my apartment complex we have quiet hours from 10pm to 8am. Between those hours I wouldn't run it but if it's 9:30 and my cat has knocked something over that needs to be cleaned up right away I do it. I'd suggest finding out what hours your place enforce and follow that time frame

8 isn't bad I'd say 9-930. I had the guy above me vacuum at 1:30 am once. I was like are you serious? So rude. I also have a 2 year old. But I swear that guy never sleeps. He's always walking around all hours of the night/early morning lol. Anyways if say your all good.
