Male GYN?

Hey all,
I'm 24 and am going in for my annual. I also have some questions and concerns for the doc regarding my period and I really need a referral for a mammogram bc I have a thickening vein on my breast I want to get looked at. Normally I see a female NP, but this past time, I called and they just got me in the soonest they could (my BC script is out), and I didn't think to ask who or mention a preference. I get a text today to confirm and the name it gave is a more masculine name. This COULD be a last name, or a woman with a more masculine name (like mine!) So whatever

.I don't have a problem with the exam , it's a professional setting with a doc who knows what they're doing. I'm more so curious as to have the conversation I need to have will go in terms of period products, their comfort, pros and cons etc. My period is very light 98% of the time time, so wearing pads bas become a waste. I want to discuss tampons, cups, and reusable/cloth pads, I'm just not sure how that conversation will go from a perspective of someone who doesn't have personal experience.

I have a male OBGYN. I prefer male OBGYNs and I prefer male doctors honestly. I am not a fan of the female OBGYNs in my area.

Honestly love my male obgyn. They are very knowledgeable and also usually very professional bc they have to be. Their patients have to be able to trust them enough to open up about sensitive topics.

I've had both and I will never go back to a female OBGYN. I've never had someone advocate for me or my reproductive health the way my male gynecologist did. I moved so I got another male in my new area and he is just the same.

My obgyn is male. And he’s the best damn doctor I’ve ever had. I wish I could go to him for everything haha

They still know what they’re talking about. While with feminine hygiene products, they may not be pulling from personal experience, they may be pulling from patient experience or their education. If it makes you more comfortable, or you’d just rather have a female, you’re definitely allowed to call back and change the appointment.

My SO is a nurse and all his nurse friends that are females talk relatively negative about their patients /: idk lol

I saw my first gynecologist at age 14/15 for an ovarian cyst & at that time I was more comfortable with a female, especially since I needed a pelvic exam done (I was also a virgin, so I think played a part in my preference)... anyway, I just didn’t get a good vibe from her, she seemed a bit condescending to me. So, I was happy when my cyst went away on it’s own & didn’t need to see her again lol. After that, I didn’t see another Obgyn until I got pregnant at 21 & moved. It ended up being a male, a MUCH older one at that (who had actually delivered my mom! Lol). I was a bit nervous & self conscious at first, but he was nice, gentle & professional. One of his associates (another male) ended up delivering my son though, and months later the primary Obgyn, the older one, retired, and his associates moved to another nearby office. So, I started seeing the one who delivered my son & he’s been my Obgyn for the last 11 years. I love him!! He’s super nice, gentle, and funny, yet professional. He’s highly recommended in my area, and I hope it’s a long time, if ever, that I have to see someone else.

Call back and ask if you're seeing a man or a woman. Most of the time, they can change something like an anual exam pretty easily and quickly to a woman so you can ask all your questions up front. But you may also be able to chat, while you're there, with a nurse

I had a male doc and he actually listen to everything I was concerned about and gave me a referral to a Fertility Specialist, I also had a female and she rushed me out of the room pretty much, male doc actually knew alot about periods and all that!
