In an emergency, would you be ready? Would you survive?

I don't mean the type of emergency like getting laid off from work, or a house fire. I mean the type of emergency like being lost in the wilderness alone.

Breaking a leg while out on a hike in the mountains.

Your car breaking down in the snow somewhere you don't know far from civilization.

Your boat sinking while out on the water.

A bear attack, or other animal.

There are so many different situations we can end up in within seconds. Being lost with no water or shelter. No food etc. I think its extremely important to know at least some about survival. How to keep warm, or cool. How to find food and water. How to build or find shelter. How to apply a tourniquet and when. How to keep your mind in the right mindset to survive and not give up. Etc.

I like to think I would be alright in most situations, but the truth is, I honestly don't know.

Do you think survival should be offered as an elective course in high school?
