How do you know when baby is ready to transition to one nap?

13 month old appears to not want to sleep in afternoon. She is wide awake.

My son just naturally dropped his morning nap at 12 months. He was really difficult to put down for a nap in the morning and just refused to sleep. But happily slept in the afternoon. I think if your LO is wide awake, try dropping a nap and see how she does.

My daughter has been taking one nap for weeks now and she turned a year old on the 29th. She naturally transitioned on her own. I would try and put her down for a second nap and she would scream and cry as she wasn't tired. But, her naps are at least two hours. Yesterday however, she only took a 45 minute nap and then went down for another one at 330. Personally, I would follow their lead. If she's not tired I'm not really sure how to "force" them to sleep

I play it by ear with my daughter, she goes to bed around 8:30 every night, sleeps until 7 or 8, naps from 12-2, some days she will act tired around 430/5 so I lay her down for a nap but if she’s acting fine then I usually keep her up. We eat dinner at 6/630 so if she’s not down by 530 then I keep her up

My son transitioned about 3 weeks ago and he’s done much better! I found it very early since my daughter had 2 naps well into her first year, but I followed his queues and he’s just generally in a better mood and much easier to get to bed. He eats lunch at 11, naps at 12, snack shortly after waking, supper at 5 then bed by 6:30-7. He doesn’t sleep through the night though.

Around this time there is a sleep regression! Your baby is most likely not ready for only one nap until closer to 18 months. I worked in daycare for years and while they were only offered one nap a day, most toddlers under 18 months would either get super cranky for a second nap or would fall asleep somewhere on their own. Keep trying to stick to your routine of naps even if they’re not sleeping.

Mine has been taking one nap for a long time. But it’s a 3 hour nap. It was hard to figure out what worked best for her. Still not sure.

No advice here but I’m having the same struggle with my 13 month old! My son used to take his afternoon nap around 2, then it moved to 2:30, now he SOMETIMES falls asleep around 3 for about 20-25 minutes. The bigger problem is that he used to fall asleep around 7-7:30 but now isn’t going to bed until around 8.
