Childbirth classes?

FTM: did you find childbirth classes helpful? Would online be as helpful as in person? How long was your childbirth class? 
Any additional info about your experience with childbirth class? Thanks

I felt like it was probably more helpful for my husband than me honestly. I did like knowing some specifics about the hospital where we were going to deliver (as we took our class there). Overall I felt more prepared.
I ended up having a c section because our daughter was breech, so I went into labor but didn’t progress very far before they took us for the surgery. I still felt the class helped both my husband and I know what to expect about the process.

Breastfeeding class was a huge help. I didn’t take it again with my second - regretted that decision. If/when we have more, I’ll be taking it again. You just forget so much from those early nursing days that are so crucial to develop good nursing habits.

My partner and I did a Saturday class. We found it very informative. We also retained a lot of info from it as well. Knowing what to generally expect in each stage of labor was helpful. We learned pain management options and pain coping techniques I can understand why some people don’t find it helpful though- we all learn and process things differently.

I second the statement about it being more of a help for my husband than myself, as he never held a baby until my son. If your hospital offers the class, it is nice learning the procedures/ routines before hand, I’m pretty sure insurance or your HSA could cover the cost, our was $20 I think. I would also second the statement that all that I learned went out the window when labor actually started too. My nurses were awesome and walked me through it all. Totally up to you, I would recommend the breastfeeding class though, i didn’t make it to one before my little guy got here, and that would’ve been helpful.

I'm doing a Hypnobabies online course that you are supposed to do over 6wk, but in your own time. You do have mp3s to listen to daily so there's something to do for it every day.

Not really because there are so many nurses in the room to walk you through the whole thing but for sure take breastfeeding class before giving birth

I didn’t take one and felt fine with not taking them. I browsed through YouTube watching whatever videos looked interesting to me. It’s cheesy to say, but you’ll just know what to do in the moment.
