Do packing cubes help save space in luggage?

I just don’t get how they would save space if any. Have any of you guys used them before?

Ive never used packing cubes but I have used these. Went on a trip for 2 weeks with just a carry on and a 5 day trip with just a personal bag using these

They just keep things organized - look into rolling/folding tips to save space, and then use the cubes to keep everything tight and organized! Also- the bags the other person suggested are also awesome!

I just buy those SpaceSaver storage bags for luggage. The kind where you stuff a bunch of clothes in them, roll the air out, and they're almost flat. 
What I like to do is pack normally (just stack clothes in the suitcase), and tuck some of those bags into the pocket of my suitcase. Then after the vacation when I'm packing to go home, I put all my clothes in the SpaceSaver bags and shrink them down, and then I have room for souvenirs
On my last trip I fit 7 days of clothes, snorkel gear, a pair of flip flops, a pair of thin water shoes, and a couple souvenirs into a carry on this way
