Could you show up to a wedding empty handed?
My husband and I had our wedding last weekend. We have been living together for 15 years so instead of a wedding registry, we had a wishing well (kindly asked for money instead of presents, EXTREMELY common in Australia).
Although we weren’t expecting too much, we were surprised by the kind generosity of our friends and family....except my new in-laws. My new sister in law, her son and his girlfriend just gave us a card, and my new father in law and his partner didn’t even bother with the card. They aren’t a well off family, but they all have jobs.
I’m not meaning to sound greedy, or like we had a wedding just so we could get money and presents. My favorite gift was a picture frame from my 16yo nephew and his gf. It’s not an expensive frame, but we love it because they picked it out for us.
Could you show up empty handed to a family members wedding? I’d feel so uncomfortable not giving anything. If I couldn’t afford to give cash, I’d buy a token gift at least
