Insurance for baby and bills?

Question

We don’t have baby’s social security card, so she hasn’t been added to our insurance. The company requires a SSN. 
Just got a bill from our pediatrician office for over $200 for baby’s first wellness visit (which will be covers by insurance). 
It says “due upon receipt” instead of an actual due date.
My question is: do I pay the bill and then get insurance to reimburse me? Or wait to pay it until baby has insurance? 
What have you done? 
I can call the billing office tomorrow but I don’t want to get swindled out of money.

My hospital stuff was all billed under me so no issue. We got ssn pretty quick and added him to insurance. Ours had thirty day limit during which we had to add him. Once he showed active on policy the pediatrician then submitted bills. If it’s been awhile and you haven’t added baby they are billing you so you’ll get it done.

Pretty much all medical bills say “due upon receipt.” But they’re not going to send you to collections if you don’t have it paid immediately. They’ll usually send the bill a couple times.
At any rate, just call the pediatricians office and speak to the billing department. Explain that you’re waiting for baby to be officially added to your insurance because you need the SSN and that the claim will be covered by insurance once that happens. They’ll likely make a note of it, tell you to let them know once baby has been added, and that’ll be the end of the conversation. Then once baby is officially on your policy, call back and let the pediatrician’s office know the claim needs to be re-submitted to insurance.
I had to do this with my sons hospital bill. There wasn’t any delay in us getting coverage because I had his social security card quick, but the hospital wouldn’t send the bills to insurance until I called them and confirmed that baby was on our policy.

Call your insurance company. A lot of them have a 30 day "newborn" coverage where the baby doesn't have to be added but charges can still be processed (this is how the bill from the hospital typically gets paid) and that's what gives you the time to apply and get their SSN. You also only have a small window after a qualifying event to actually add them, typically 30 days, so you might want to check on that too....seems weird they won't add without a SSN as that can sometimes take up to 6 weeks.

That seems wierd. Our hospital with our son billed insurance and he was automatically added and I just gave his ssn once we got it and updated his name with them also. Until then we got cards that said infant ____ (last name) definitely call the hospital billing and talk to them I'd wait till insurance pays before paying anything. I did that with our son also bc there were discrepancies that's a long story.
