My (long) birth story *TRIGGER WARNING*
My day finally came last Friday (2-7-20) for my induction.. got to the hospital, got set up than was checked before pitocin was started (3cm, 50%, -2 station) by 1pm the pit was going.. within an hour the contractions were hitting hard..I held off for a while before getting an epidural. Hours had gone by with little progress made.. that night they decided it was time to break my water..I was perfectly fine with that.. Nervous as my fluid levels were high but ready to finish with labor so I could finally meet my son.. As the night went on I was still making little progress.. it was hours between dialating even a cm.. I felt pressure around 3:45am (2-8-20) and requested being checked.. as she was checking baby I noticed her face quickly changed.. she said I was near 7cm than she walked out of the room.. I found that odd. She returned moments later with another doctor who than wanted to check me as well..I knew right at that moment something wasn't right.. I felt her pushing the baby around, lots of pressure before she called the code.. within seconds there were doctor's flooding my room.. I was being detached from all IVs, monitors ECT... This doctor was still on my bed with her arm... Not even hand but arm holding my son up off my cervix. She looked at me as calm as she could and said "you are going in for an emergency c section, you have a prolapsed cord, if we don't get this baby out he's not gonna make it" she stayed with her arm holding my son up until he was born only 7 minutes later. I was put under general anesthesia somewhere along the way. He was born at 4:06am on 2-8-2020. His head wasn't in the birth canal right, he was trying to deliver face first which put a strain on his neck. His head was also pushing all oxygen off from his cord. Had this kept going, he would have died. After he was delivered he went to the NICU right away, he was in shock and needed some assistance. My husband was the first to meet him, followed by our 15yo daughter and my friend. I was in surgery for a little longer than sent into recovery before going back up to my room. I finally met my son around 630am. It was the best moment imaginable..I didn't know what I was gonna wake up to.. the whole thing went so fast. I was beyond scared. He has a few bumps and bruises.. he currently has a very little soft spot that we are being referred to a specialist for and his cord was very thin. It was a very traumatic experience.. I'm still so messed up over it. We are now home. He's beyond perfect.. I can't do much as I have 5 layers of stitches.. I feel broken but so very thankful at the same time.
