I worked as a maid in a hotel, some people are awesome, but most people are disgusting slobs. Clean up after yourselves people. No one wants to strip the bed with your stank cum sheets on them.

I would just because I used work in housekeeping and I know that a even a small tip can make their day. We also try to make cleaning as easy as possible for them by cleaning up after ourselves for the most part

No it’s Their job. It’s not a tipped wage. Waitresses make less than $4 an hour. Most hotels pay their housekeepers $10 plus and hour depending on location. I’m also clean and don’t require much.

Having worked as a housekeeper, we always dreaded cleaning rooms that had opted out of housekeeping for days. They were almost always significantly dirtier than the ones we did daily (not just because of the fact that they don't get upkept daily, but because people who skip housekeeping somehow seem to believe that means they can trash the place since no one's coming into thier room every day to 'check' on thier rooms) 
Not to mention, you generally get in trouble when it takes longer than X amount of time to clean the room. So say, you get 15 minutes to clean each check out room. The one that's were upkept during the stay don't require as much scrubbing/ect, so the 15 minutes is doable. But the room that has trash piled up everywhere, syrup/toothpaste stuck on the counter top, handprints on the windows, ect, take more than 15 minutes. And so your boss gets pissy at you because it took more time to clean 
So the rooms that opted out of housekeeping should definitely leave a tip for having left a bigger mess at the end of it and causing a bit of an inconvenience

How long did you stay for? 1-2 nights is no big deal, but if you stayed longer they probably came to your room for light duties like taking the trash and changing the towels even if you opted out, so leave a tip.
