Is Too Many Ultrasounds Bad For The Baby?

I’m currently 17 week pregnant , I want to find out the gender so bad but the anatomy scan won’t be until I’m 21 weeks (that’s a whole month away).. I want to pay for an ultrasound out of my pocket just to find out the gender but throughout my whole pregnancy I have had 3 ultrasound already(at 5 weeks , 9weeks and at 16weeks) Are too many ultrasound bad ?

The short answer is we don't know. They can't actually test on pregnant women/unborn babies because of ethics so there's no straight answer. I had monthly scan with my son from 12 weeks + a couple extras at random. He was fine but if he hadn't of had issues I would have never been allowed so many scans. The reason you only usually get 2-3 your whole pregnancy is because we simply cannot know if lots of scans are safe. It's up to you to decide if you want to risk extra scans or not (I'm 20 weeks and have had 4 scans, probably won't have anymore unless baby is breech or my bump is too small).

There isn’t enough research to definitively say it is safe, but no evidence points to that they are dangerous. If it was just one extra scan throughout the whole pregnancy then I would do it, but since you have a had a few additional already I would consider just waiting at this point. I honestly don’t think it’s a big deal, so if you choose to do it don’t stress about it. But if it were me and I had already had several additional scans on top of medically necessary ones then I would probably hold off just to play it safe.

My last pregnancy I had about 15 ultrasounds.. maybe more (I was high risk). And she is 2 and very smart and advanced for her age, and hasn't had any issues.
But they say they aren't sure.. I'm just sharing my experience.

I had about 50/60 my last pregnancy 2/3 a week due to iugr, he came out perfectly healthy and unaffected by the ultrasounds.

I had an ultrasound every 2 weeks after 20 weeks and every week after 28 weeks because I was high risk with my first, so I don't think having one extra ultrasound is going to do any harm.
