NT scan vs NIPT vs First Trimester Screening

Jen

First off, I am so thankful that my doctor’s office does all of these different screens/tests.

I’m a bit sad on Valentines Day knowing my husband and I were planning to announce today - but don’t feel “out of the woods” on if our baby boy will be okay. I’m 13w for anyone wondering.

The past two weeks were a whirlwind. First, my NT score came back as 2.9mm which puts me in the top 5% percentile. I immediately was referred for a fetal echocardiogram at 16w which is scheduled for March. I also had the First Trimester Screening test done immediately. I was a wreck being told “my score is within normal range but we consider you higher risk”.

Then my NIPT results came back. A baby boy! And low risk for any abnormalities!! I felt so much better.

Two days later my doctor called me with the First Trimester Screening results and told me I am High Risk for chromosomal abnormalities based on one of my hormone levels and the NT score. It’s hard to not feel broken hearted.

I know the chances are, everything is normal and everything is OK. But we don’t feel like we’re in a safe place yet and therefore can’t celebrate the pregnancy. Trying to stay positive but there are good days and bad days. I’ll be having the CVS test done early next week.

Thanks for reading ladies ❤️ If you are going through something similar know you aren’t alone.
