20 week scan?

Question

I have it in 2 days and I’m just nervous. Do i get pictures? I just want everything to be ok.. what all do they do? My anxiety calms down if i knoww mostly what they’re doing. Also. I don’t know how to make my baby active and they told me to try to drink or Eat something but when i do baby is still curled up...

Answer

Basically they assess all of baby’s anatomy (heart, brain, kidneys, etc) to make sure everything looks normal.  They also look at your cervix, uterus, placenta, cord, and amount of fluid surrounding baby.  Usually the scan is around half an hourish.  Depending on where you go and what their policy is, you may find out gender at the actual ultrasound or it will be in the report and you find it out with the rest of the results at the dr office.  Some places will allow your spouse/whoever you bring with you in the exam room the entire time and some places will only allow them at the very end.  The tech may be chatty or may do your exam in completely silence. Don’t worry if the tech isn’t talking... that’s normal.  They are concentrating very hard and it doesn’t mean they are seeing anything abnormal.

Answer

It will be a detailed anatomy scan, so you will get lots of pictures. And if you haven’t found out the gender of the baby yet, you will during your scan. 
Don’t worry if you can’t get baby to move, the ultrasound tech will figure out how to get what they need.
