Toddler developing allergy over time??

Question

So this is my sons 4th ear infection and he also has a cold. 
1st: amoxicillin- no reaction
2nd: honestly can’t remember off the top of my head- no reaction 
3rd- cefdinir- allergic reaction so they prescribed him amoxicillin 
4th amoxicillin- allergic reaction 
The first 3 happened last year with the 3rd one in August. At around 9 this morning my husband noticed what I thought was a really big bug bite, like the size of a golf ball, on his upper butt. I called the nurse advice line and they advised me to take him in to be checked out. When we were leaving the house, I noticed the “bug bite” spread all over his butt cheek. And then at the drs it had spread all over his butt, back, and legs. 
Nothing in his life has changed. He’s been wearing the same diapers, same detergent, same soap, same lotion, same food. Literally nothing has changed. 
The doctor said he might actually be allergic to amoxicillin or even penicillin and that we need to do an allergy test. 🙃
Anyone else, adult or baby, not have an allergy and then develop one over time? I’m only allergic to bandaid adhesive so I have no idea. And my husband isn’t allergic to anything either.

Allergies usually develop over time. It can take several exposures for the body to have an adverse reaction. That's how allergies typically work.

My son had a reaction the 1st time he was prescribed amoxicillin but it didnt happen until the 6th day.  The rash took like 10 days to completely clear up

Allergies develop over time. I was 26 when I became allergic to milk. My dad was 40 when he became allergic to strawberries. My mom allergic to latex at 45 after 25 years as a nurse wearing latex gloves. She also became allergic to the glue used in common surgeries. She now requires stitches or staples only, no glues. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Bodies are weird.

My son had an allergic reaction his second time having amoxicillin and not until day 9 of the medication. It usually happens that way.

My son developed an allergy to amoxicillin after her had like 8 ear infections. Don’t remember meds but his limbs swelled at the joints and his fingers and he had the bug bite like hives all over. They looked like welts. The stupid ER said it was a virus and to continue the meds. My mom works w his pedi at the hospital 2 days a week and she showed her the pictures and she personally called me to tell me to stop the meds and made room for him the next day at the dr because the er was wrong. He couldn’t even walk he was so swollen.

My brothers mother in law out of no where developed an allergy to tomatoes and she's always loved and eaten then all 47 years of her life.

My husband became allergic to penicillin as an adult. He took it numerous times as a child, according to his mother. I remehe even took it once while we dated. The last few years hes become highly allergic.
