Is this a normal hospital policy? (Description)

Question

I called in to ask if I should bring my baby into the hospital. 
The nurse had to ask the provider for advice. Totally normal. 
But then I asked who the provider was because there is one that I 1,000% don’t trust. (I’ll explain after)
She told me that she wasn’t allowed to give me that information. (Even though previous times I’ve been told who the provider is)
Is that normal? Like, am I supposed to trust the medical advice of someone I don’t even know who it is??
....I don’t like a certain provider there because he tried to send my 4 month old home from the ER because he didn’t know what was wrong.... SHE HAD A RARE STAPH INFECTION. Like, we’re talking people hadn’t heard of it rare. Like, my baby had to be flown and spend a week in pediatric ICU. Kay, that explains that.

It could be a safety issue for the providers sake  but in a case like this, you can state the provider’s name you don’t trust and say maybe something along the lines of you previously had an issue with them (without going into detail) and wanted to see if you could get another provider’s opinion. I think that way the nurse knows something is wrong but she won’t have to tell you who is on staff.

I don’t think that’s right. You should be allowed to know who the medical advice is coming from. I called the clinic when I was pregnant about a concern and the nurse (basically talking to herself) said well Dr. Milo is on for Dr. Moyer today so let’s see what she thinks...” I didn’t even ask who she was going to send a message to.

I work as an ER nurse and it's our policy not to tell anyone who the provider on call is.

This is not normal or OK in the US. You are allowed to have a preference in provider, but more importantly, you need this info to ensure said provider is in-network for insurance purposes. They should even give you their provider number without hesitation. I’d continue pushing and escalate within the organization, if needed.
