Naming your Son after their Mother?

Question

My sister named her son the "masculine" version of her name and gave him her last name since her childs father was barely involved during her pregnancy and ultimatly it was a good choice because he abandon them completely in the end. Just woundering what other's thought of this descion, I might do the same thing.

Victoria ➡️ Victor

My boys have family names for middle names, my third will have the middle name Samuel after me (Samantha) 
For first names though, I think every child should have their own unique first name. I don’t like using first names after someone else. Doesn’t matter to me if the namesake is living or dead, male or female, I just don’t like “re-using” names for first names.

Personally I’m not a fan of naming a child after their parent. I feel like it’s as though they’ll grow up in their parents shadow.

I come from a family big on using family names - both for first and middle. I see nothing wrong with it. I think traditionally it’s been male names that are used and reused, but why shouldn’t women be able to do the same? I think it’s a nice way of honoring people.

I wouldnt because I dont like the masculine version of my name but I dont think theres anything wrong with it.  People name their kids after the father all the time and no one takes issue

Middle name, sure, but I personally wouldn’t do it for a first name. Seems a bit up myself to name my kid after me

I don’t like the idea of naming kids after people in the family. I’m not a fan, and people get attached. We had that issue with the name and then when we changed it everyone was disappointed. In all honesty his parents shouldn’t have told people a name that wasn’t set in stone.

If we have a girl their middle name will be Elianna, my middle names are Elizabeth Anne but I was named for my aunts and so I’m not actually naming baby after myself but after my aunts (which was the intention) that’s about as close as I’d get close. All my kids are named after someone but not myself or my husband. Always thought it was a bit odd.
