Sleep training one year old (sorry long post)
So I am looking to start sleep training my one year old... I know I’m a little late in the game but honestly didn’t feel the need to until now. She’s always been a great sleeper from day one and even on nights when she did wake, it was at 3/4am and she was easy to get back down until morning. But since about 10 months old she’s progressively woken up earlier and earlier and more than once... Now it’s to a point where we are lucky if she makes it past midnight without waking at least twice. She’s developed a strong need to be held when sleeping now and that’s partly my fault. Even when she was sleeping well through the night, it still involved me rocking her to sleep. And here we are, at one year, and I’m still doing the same routine.
She’s got a pretty good bedtime routine down. We start at about 7/7:30 with bath time for about 15 min. Then lavender lotion, pjs and the she brushes her teeth/drinks her water while I read her a book. And after we rock to sleep and she’s out within 15 min. Buttt then she’s waking up almost every hour until I cave and finally bring her to bed with me where she practically stays on top of me the rest of the night.
Last night we decided to try the chair method. Where you sit next to the crib and quietly shush and comfort your baby while they try to go to sleep. If they get hysterical, you can pick them up.... I ended up picking her up twice during the whole process. But the entire time she was whiny and crying while reaching for me. She would not lay down, she just stood in her crib. After an hour, and a the second time I picked her up, she finally went to sleep. In less than the 2 min I held her she was out like a light... kind of defeated the purpose of her putting herself to sleep....
So now I think we are going to try the Ferber method... however my question to you ladies is what is your sleep training preference and why. And any tips to get a clingy one year old to go to sleep on her own....
Thanks in advance from one tired moma 😴😴
