I found out through trial and suggestions from people I've had sex with. 
One BF asked me about blindfolding so we tried it and I loved it. I also realized with him I like getting scratched. He would rub his hands and fingers across me and I asked him to scratch me and realized I loved it.

I did research. Started by taking the bdsmtest.org and then looked into the ones I didn’t know. The lovehoney YouTube channel has some pretty good educational videos too if you look past the product placement (I really like the bondage gone Wilde series and the sectors ahoy series).
