What causes diaper rash

My mom has OCD. Every time I’m at her house, and my son needs his diaper changed, she freaks out thinking I never change  him (I check it every 30-60 minutes.) and it makes me feel like a horrible mom if he ever gets a rash even though I know some foods can cause rashes like if he eats this baby food with pineapple or pomegranate I notice he gets a little irritated. But she goes off saying I don’t change him and it’s cause by not changing him quick enough. (He doesn’t go long with a dirty diaper on. Like 5min max)

So one of the things that can actually cause diaper rash is putting on diaper rash cream before their butt is completely dry. I couldn’t figure out why our son kept getting it until I watched my husband put the diaper cream on his butt while it was still wet.

Baby’s poop is very acidic and is what causes diaper rash. The longer they are in contact with the poop the worse/ more irritated the rash can get.

My son has sensitive skin and gets rashes easy. Had my mil threaten to try to take him away because he had a rash. She had him for the day was lathering the cream on so thick on his still wet bottom it got way worse. She somehow blamed me for it and said it was because I never change him 🙄 Sometimes he'll get one even if I change him right away after he poops (if I can catch him, he's 2 and still hates changes)

I change my baby as soon as shes done pooping and it still gets red right around her bottom so I keep aquaphor on her. As someone else said make sure its dry first. I use it with every change and if there is redness it's gone within a couple hours. Its magic stuff lol

Use diaper rash cream every time you are around your mother so even if baby ate something the diaper cream will help. My mother in law used to check my babies every time she was around like she wanted to change her diaper to make sure she didn’t have a rash and my daughter skin is super sensitive so once I stared using the cream all the time she was around she even congratulated me on having a diaper rash free baby lol 😂 I use palmers diaper rash cream
