Pregnancy back pain? No, kidney stones.
I'd been having excruciating, severe back pain (like sobbing and crawling on the floor from pain) for the last week. I went to my OB at Day 2 and mentioned I was having awful pain. They gave me a belly band and sent me off without investigating even though I told them my pain level was severe. This is my first pregnancy so I thought maybe back pain during pregnancy just is that bad. Day 6...I have lost so much sleep from pain, the belly band makes it worse. Yoga, stretching, massage e.t.c... nothing is working. I finally call my nurse advice line and they send me to the ER, who then transfers me to L and D. Sure enough, it's not a normal backache. Kidney stones and a possible kidney infection (I'm waiting on culture results). I spent an entire day there and I am so grateful to the doctor and nurses there who actually took the time to listen to me. There's a whole other story behind this decision, but I'm going to work with patient advocacy on base (I have tricare prime and they've decided need to be seen at the base hospital even though I live over an hour away) to be transferred to this OB. If I had gotten a terrible infection, I could've had kidney failure or even lost my baby. I'm just so irritated with my current OB.
On another note, I'll be taking antibiotics and straining my pee for stones, but I'm so glad the worst is over. If you have severe back pain, please go to the doctor and make sure they listen to you!
