Coming off Birth Control after many years on (Feb 2020)

Meg

Anyone else stopping their birth control around now after being on it a long time and planning on TTC in 9 months or so?

I was on combination birth control for about 16 years. I don't remember what my period was like before birth control or the 1-2 years I didn't take it, so I have zero assumptions or expectations, I feel like I am back to being in middle school just waiting and having to be prepared at all times but now I am 33!

Discussed with my SO (age 35) of 5 years (no intention of getting married currently due to personal reasons) but we both want kids, don't want to be "old parents" and we love each other's families, have a house, stable careers etc. I assured him that I don't want to get pregnant ASAP because I don't even really know what I am like off the pill and know we aren't exactly ready so we plan on using condoms for the time being.

Anyone else in a similar situation? I can't seem to find a group that fits exactly or even close to what I am looking for.

Thanks!

Omg! Same here girl! Just stopped my birth control but planning on using condoms for 3 months to (hopefully) see a regulated-ish cycle? I’ve been on BC since 16 with no breaks and I’m 29! I am going to track my cycle and hopefully get somewhat of an idea when I start trying in Huly/August

I'm currently 9 months post stopping bc and still have had no luck with conceiving. Were both 28 and we've both been tested and everything looks good just still waiting for that positive test. I had the nexplanon for 3 years then I was on junel fe for a year and 10 months before stopping and starting ttc.

Yeah I was! We decided to stop trying this month because after 8 months of trying with no luck it became so upsetting seeing negatives each month.

Are you doing OPK and BBT?

I’ve been on the pill (combo) for 15 years. I’m 29. I’ve had a couple months off here and there but I feel like I don’t even know my body at all. I stopped taking it 3/29. We aren’t TTC yet but are hoping to in a couple months. Do y’all have any resources or books or anything that you turned to for information? I feel like I need the basics of the cycle but also what is actually normal AND what happens to the body coming off of birth control after being on it so long- side effects/ things like that.Thank you for any input and recommendations!

I was on progesterone only birth control for the past four years (implant, then pills) I stopped taking the minipill in March! Was getting paranoid about everything and right when I least expected it, I took an OPK and caught my peak, and I got my period exactly two weeks later. It was so strange getting used to a “normal” cycle after years of something else. It’ll be three months, but this is our first cycle actually TRYing now that my regular period is back. Best of luck! I hope you get pregnant right away! 🥰✨

Awesome and good luck to you! We actually got pregnant the third month off birth control as I was tracking my cycles and we just had our baby girl almost 8 weeks ago!

Wow it sounded like I was reading my own story. Been on birth control since I was 17, now 33 and my husband 35. Been together for 5 years married for 1 this past June which on our anny we agreed to stop taking BC so it’s been 6 months since then, and I sadly just got my period yesterday yet again. Not exactly the same as we are actively trying but I just wanted to say kudos to you for getting off BC asap. From what I’m learning, the earlier the better. I wish I had earlier! Side note, one of my biggest regrets in life as a woman has been not trusting myself enough to get to know my body and cycle and relying on BC my whole adult life, and listening to those irrational warnings we got as teens that sex = pregnancy. So ignorant on my part. Would love to connect if you like and good luck to both of you when you do decide to officially TTC. 💜
