Mastisis or clogged duct?

Jami Lynn💜momma of five

My baby is exclusively breastfeeding and he’s almost two weeks old. Today I spiked a fever along with chills. My right breast is tender on the outside near my armpit. Does this red streak look like mastisis or nothing? My kids also had the flu last week so I’m trying to figure out which one it is..

I’ve had mastitis twice and both started with a fever and chills. Go get help or call your doctor. You don’t want to get more sick. I was prescribed antibiotics over the phone and within an hour or two of taking the first dose, the fever had gone away and the pain started to dissipate. I also filled a sock with rice and microwaved it and held it over my breast several times throughout the day.

I just got over a 2 week bought of mastitis that looked exactly like this. Mine was fungal! Not bacterial. I did two rounds of antibiotics & they did nothing. Took Diflucan and boom after 3 days felt better...Good luck! I hope you feel better soon!!

Prescription...Diflucan or fluconazole. Most doctors won’t jump to the fungal being the problem right away, but it can’t hurt to ask!

If you suspect mastitis please call your dr. I thought I had a yeast infection. So did the dr. She said if it didn't get better in 3 days to come back. I thought it was better. A month later I no joke almost died because it was actually mastitis and it went septic. I spent 8 days in the hospital, 2 days were ICU. Please don't play with that stuff.

Oh I'm fine and cancer free for 2 years now🙏💪🙌 On a funny note: when I was stationed in Alabama the locals told me when you say "bless your heart" it really means "you're so stupid!"🤣 I totally know you didn't mean it like that but I had to share. In retrospect, it really does apply to every situation I've encountered! 🤣😂

Bless your heart. I'm so sorry. I'll be praying for you

From the looks... it's a clogged duct. But you shouldn't have a fever unless it's mastitis or the flu. I'd go to the doctor and get checked out for both. Unless something has changed recently difulcan is RX only in the US

When I had mastitis, that’s not what it looked like, it was a more generalized area of redness. I was able to clear it by thoroughly draining the breast without antibiotics (my doc even confirmed that’s likely what happened), though it’s not really supposed to work that way. I would try to get in to your doc to see if they can test you for flu (if it’s positive, that’s probably your source) and if it’s negative, then it’s possibly mastitis and you’ll likely need antibiotics.
