Did you use a doula?

Question

Was hiring a birth doula worth it? I’m more interested in a postpartum doula. I have a few friends that are doulas. But we are VERY tight financially so I want to spend our money wisely.

I had a doula and 100% would hire one again. I had a hospital birth and ended up being induced, but I did it without pain meds, so it was super helpful to have her. She did a couple in home prenatal visits where we talked about birth plans and practiced labor positions. She came to the hospital and stayed by my side, and made sure my husband was eating. Being able to look to her for support during labor was a huge deal for me! And then she came to my house again after baby was born to help with breastfeeding and the adjustment. I honestly don't think I could have labored unmedicated if I didn't have a doula!

I had a doula who was also our hypnobabies instructor. It was amazing and I would gladly and definitely do it over again. LO made a surprise visit 4 weeks early so we had to deliver in the hospital as opposed to the birth center as wa planned but I did it completely unmedicated in just over 12 hours from my water breaking to delivery. My doula also attended a medicated birth. I say finding a doula who fits the type of birth you want is the best idea.
