Candles around newborns?

Probably sounds like a stupid question 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 but I love burning Yankee candles! They make my house smell lovely, but my husbands just said we won’t be able to do that once the baby is here as it’s bad for her respiratory system? I didn’t even think of this! Is it true? 🙈

I’ve heard that too. It’s the synthetic fragrance that’s supposed to not be good for babies.

I am NOT trying to sell to you but I am a consultant so I use Scentsy wax warmers in my house! I don’t think candles are bad for respiratory systems but I’ve never done in depth research on how they affect respiratory systems.

I would only recommend against it if your kid of any age has a health condition with his respiratory system. Other than that, you’re just fine.

Personally I wouldn’t. It just seems like candles/wax warmers/oil diffusers would be too much for a new respiratory system. But I won’t even use dreft detergent because the smell is too strong.

A an hour or two every few days is okay, burning candles 24/7 is not recommended for anyone. Even most candles will say not to burn for more than 6hours or something like that

Personally, I wouldn’t, but that’s me. I’m pretty sensitive to perfumes and think it’s probably not something that anyone, especially newborns, should be breathing in. But I also haven’t researched the science of it. Maybe you can find candles with natural essential oils rather than perfumes?

I will keep burning candles once baby arrives. It’s something I find calming and I enjoy the smell, so unless baby starts having an issue I’ll keep using my candles. 
Just obviously use common sense. Don’t fall asleep with them burning, don’t put too close to anything flammable like fabric, and it’s probably not necessary to have in baby’s nursery. But since you use candles all the time anyway I’d bet you already use them safely.
