My Birth Story

Courtney

Well my son is almost a month old and I’m just now getting to catch my breath. So here’s my birth story.

I was 39w 1d and I wasn’t dilated or thinned at all and decided to have a scheduled csection because my blood pressure kept staying high, my son wouldn’t drop, and he was sunny side up. So we went in at 6:30am on 1/24/20 and waited until 12pm for them to even be able to take us back to the OR. We get back there and my spinal only took on my left side and so she had to redo it. I was freezing and felt like I couldn’t breathe so she put oxygen on me. They cut me open and had to use the vacuum to get him out since he was so far in my ribs and with her pushing on my ribs to get him to move I got nauseous. Well they got him out and I heard him cry and my husband went over to him (he was perfect) and the doctor (working on me) starts yelling “I NEED HELP IN HERE! SOMEONE CALL FOR HELP! GET THE BLOOD NOW!” My husband brings our son over so I can see him and we’re both crying and looking at our son not knowing what’s going on with me. Finally another doctor walks in and my doctor says “I think I have it under control now”. So I go back to my room (recovery was full). I couldn’t keep up with everything going on but I had heart monitors, blood pressure monitors, O2 monitors, oxygen, and IV fluids going all at one time. The doctor comes in to check my bleeding and apparently it was bad so they had to lay me down and push on my stomach and it felt like a fountain of blood gushing out of me. All I could do was moan in pain. I was shaking and the pain meds they gave me made me so sick so I was throwing up. They had to give me IV meds, a shot in my thigh, some kind of dissolvable pill on my butt and she was scooping out blood clots. I ended up having to have a blood transfusion because my iron and my potassium being so low. It was all worth it for my sweet 8lbs 9oz 20in long baby boy.
