NY bill- ivf covarage

An Aetna representative told me that they’ll not cover IVF and that’s why we paid in full this month- February. They updated their policy on my portal and they do cover 3 ivf cycles from the first of Jan 🤬. Anyone tried to claim something back from the insurance before? After you paid the full price without realizing that’s covered? Aetna office opens on Monday morning 🙄.

If you paid and they should have, they should pay your clinic and then your clinic should reimburse you. That’s so frustrating!!!!

Are you enrolled in their infertility program prior to beginning treatment? If so~you should expect a check from Aetna in the mail. It will most likely show in your claims portal once they approve the treatment ~just let the Rep. know that you paid in full (make sure they have your correct mailing address). I’ve been dealing with Aetna for a while now and it’s been a headache but it usually works itself out. Hope this helps!

Aetna does not cover ivf/iui PROCEDURES. They however cover everything leading up to it. E5c appointments scan meds etc. Ive been at this for a long time with Aetna and I have 15yrs health ins experience. Please take the time to speak with a rep it will give you some peace of mind. Good luck.

It’s complicated 😫. I’ve done 3 IUIs with a different clinic. When this clinic checked my eligibility for IVF (before Jan) they said no. I’ve called them also and asked about new NY law and they said they not gonna do it because they are not based in NY state. I didn’t take the reference number of that phone call or anything. I’ve assumed that they don’t cover it and told the clinic that I’m self pay and paid it 3 weeks ago. Today, I’ve logged in to my Aetna portal and see that they added a document saying that they cover 3 rounds of IVF from Jan 1st. I’m confused 😐. I’m gonna call Aetna on Monday morning and see what they say 😫. Thank you for commenting! Good luck on your journey ✨

It may be x amount of failed IUIs to be eligible for the IVF treatment. The clinic that you’re apart of should have sent in your clinicals to Aetna to prove you are now eligible for IVF. Did the clinic submit clinicals for the IUIs? If so, I would start there~ then you can reference the date that the 3 IUIs were sent - that would be the approval date (that I would advocate for). For me, I had to go through the infertility program for IVF (skipping over IUI- but I needed to prove cause), then I needed to additionally submit clinicals to the speciality pharmacy for approval, and now I’m in process of submitted additional clinicals for another advanced treatment using ICSI bc we have issues on both sides. Hope this is somewhat helpful!

Hopefully they would reimburse you for what they would cover under those 3 cycles UNLESS they require preauthorization prior to starting treatments which could screw you. I hope you're able to get it sorted out. :(
