Bleeding on birth control

Hi so this is my first month on birth control and I’m starting to spot heavier ( I have been spotting since I started it ) my period is supposed to start in 1 day If I wasn’t on birth control. But I am and I take my placebo tomorrow. I already took a pregnancy test and it was negative. So what could be the cause? Has anyone else experienced this ?
